Every February 14, people in relationships often take time to focus on and show their love for their significant other. Some exchange gifts or go out to a special dinner. Others cook their partner’s favorite meal or spend the day relaxing together. Sometimes, though, you may want to change it up a little. If you’re in the mood for something new and exciting, making a trip to a romantic location could be the perfect way to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
Luckily, there are many romantic destinations that you and your significant other can visit for this special occasion. See a few of our recommendations below!
Return to Your Honeymoon Spot
If you’re married, perhaps the most romantic place you could visit is where you had your honeymoon. A return to the first trip you took as a married couple, in the afterglow of wedding celebrations, could allow you to recapture that energy. Sometimes, if you mention that you had your honeymoon at the hotel or resort, you may even be able to stay in the same room as before or get an upgrade!

If you didn’t have a honeymoon, or if where you stayed isn’t open, it’s the perfect chance to have a first (or second) honeymoon at a new location! Try to ensure that this trip feels more like a honeymoon and less like another vacation. Go somewhere that focuses on couples and offers couple-themed events. For example, an all-inclusive resort may fit the bill.
Head Someplace Warm
February, the month in which Valentine’s Day falls, is one of the coldest months of the year. A romantic getaway to someplace warm could double as your chance to get away from the cold. Take a lesson from snowbirds — you can travel to somewhere warm every once in a while to thaw out for a few days. It doesn’t hurt that tropical or warm locations also tend to be some of the most romantic places on Earth.

If you want to turn up the heat, you may want to look into an all-inclusive resort, as many are in warmer regions of the world (primarily the Caribbean and Mexico). These locations, however, may be pricier since all costs are upfront. Alternative retreats could be a better value for you. A trip to the Florida Keys or the beaches of California may still be pricy depending on where you stay, but will most likely cost less than a resort. Ultimately, you have many warm locations to choose from to thaw out and heat up your relationship!
Spend a Long Weekend in Wine Country
If a trip down memory lane or somewhere warm doesn’t strike your fancy, why not try a visit to wine country? The United States has many different wine regions, making them easy to visit no matter where you live. Two of the most famous, New York’s Finger Lakes and Sonoma County in California, are on the East and West coasts, respectively. One benefit of visiting a wine region is that they tend to offer an old-world feel that is a stark difference to the beaches we previously mentioned. Stay at a quaint bed and breakfast or vineyard inn!

Keep in mind, a trip to wine country doesn’t have to involve wine, especially if you’ve quit drinking. Many of the better-known wine regions of the country have had vibrant food and tourism communities spring up around them, allowing you to enjoy tasty treats from top, up-and-coming individuals in the culinary world.

In the end, the way you should spend Valentine’s Day is probably with your loved one. Whether that’s at home or on the beaches of Cancún, what’s important is the love you share. It might just be a bit nicer to share that love in the warm sun, rather than the freezing weather we’ve been having lately! Happy Valentine’s Day from Shop & Enroll!
